Making Meaning: Asian American Art in a Generative Age

As generative AI changes how images and stories are created, what remains uniquely human about making meaning?

In this conversation, two Asian American artists, one from the stage and one from public art, share how identity, culture, and lived experience shape their work. Emma, who recently brought the AI character Vera to life in My Home on the Moon here in Boston, reflects on what it means to give voice to a machine and what makes a performance human. Sneha Shrestha (IMAGINE), a Nepali artist and recipient of the ICA/Boston's 2025 Foster Prize, works across painting, sculpture, and large-scale installations, with works acquired by the MFA Boston and Harvard Art Museums. She reflects on language as form and atmosphere, and how her practice sustains living Himalayan cultures while exploring memory, belonging, and cultural continuity. Together, they'll explore finding your voice, the communities behind the work, and how artists are responding to AI. The session closes with open Q&A, so bring your questions and your own creative instincts.
